We’re launching imFlattrd.com!

by Pelle on juni 16th, 2010

Since we first got a peak of Flattr.com, about a year ago, we’ve been amazed of both the idea and the final product. It’s simply an amazing system for micro payments and for showing appreciation for stuff you enjoy. We felt that we wanted to create an extension to this system, something that’ll make it even more useful!

First a few words about Flattr!
For those of you that haven’t ogled their system yet, please, I’m begging you – do it right now!

The whole idea is about making it simple for creative people (writers, photographers, musicians, etc.) to receive a few cents from those enjoying their work. A few coins here and there doesn’t sound like ”good business”, but if you’re able to reach a whole bunch of people using Flattr it’ll add up to pretty sweet sums in the end.

Oh, I forgot to mention that the best thing about this system is your monthly flat rate balance. Let’s say that you’re using your Flattr account and press 100 different Flattr-buttons (like the one to the left of this post) you would think that it’ll cost you a small fortune. Good news, it doesn’t. See, when you log on to Flattr.com you’re obliged to enter a monthly maximum balance you’re willing to Flattr for. This amount is then divided with the number of buttons you press. If you only press one button within 30 days, all of that money will go to one single contributor. If your instead press 100 buttons, the amount will be divided into 100 small pieces and shared among all contributors. Quite genius, eh?

Whats imFlattrd.com?
The main purpose with this post was to inform you that we (me and my friend Jonny) just released that ”extension” I first mentioned. We wanted to create something fresh, creative and something that used the Flattr-system in a new way.

What we came up with was a simple page where you can promote yourself with a short presentation, links to all your social network profiles, your email and your instant messaging usernames. All optional of course. Your imFlattrd.com profile will act somewhat like an online social contact card.

What does this have to do with Flattr? Well, since we wanted to extend the range of their system, we also added unique Flattr buttons to each profile. This means that if someone appreciate you as a person, they’re now able to Flattr you, not your work. Or as we like to say – Flattr just got personal!

Feel free to leave a comment to this post with thoughts, ideas, requests, well.. just about anything you want to tell us! If you need an invite to Flattr.com we’ve just received 20 of them, just give us your email and we’ll send you one!

Feel free to follow imFlattrd.com on Twitter!

Notice: All information and updates about imFlattrd.com will be published in this blog, in English. If you want to read the rest of the nonsense I’m writing I suggest Google Translate since it’s mainly written in Swedish. ;)

Notice 2: If you think that my English is a bit rusty and my grammar sucks, it’s because of the same reason as the last notice. My native language is Swedish, but I’ll try my best. :)

    Wooha, thanks! :D

  • Really love this idea! Here is where the people who don't want to put up an extra site or whatever to get flattrd! Really great consept! :) Let's get personal! ;)

Thanks for your kind words! I'm really glad you like the idea :)

As you say, this is mainly meant for people that doesn't want to (or don't have the time or knowledge) to put up a site of their own. For people already active/contributing on the web it's also a good way to give their readers/listeners/viewers a simple way to pad you on the back and give you a few cents extra.

I really hope that the word will spread and more people will sign up. Sadly I'm not that good at marketing and I'm running out of ideas. If you maloki, or anyone else, got any ideas about this, please share your knowledge! I'll Flattr you ;)
